Shiba Inu: Wonderful Japanese Dog Breed

The Shiba inu is a small japanese dog. Although the Shiba Inu is not very common in the U.S., it is the most popular breed in Japan.
The Shiba Inu belongs to the spitz family of dogs, and as such is a hardy breed, able to survive cold weather. A very active dog as well, the Shiba Inu makes great breed for outdoor sports and hunting. They are fairly small, making them an ideal breed for those who want a spitz type dog, but don't have a large house or apartment.
Like most spitz, Shibas are closer to their primitive roots than other breeds, making them more independent. This means that properly training your Shiba Inu may be more challenging than lets say a Lab or Retriever.
Shiba Inu's are loyal, courageous, and fiesty: wrapped up in a small and very cute bundle. If these are the characteristics you want in a dog, then you should do yourself a favor and find out more about this awesome breed.
There are very few good non-japanese websites dedicated to the Shiba Inu. http://www.ilovemyshiba.com/ is a great site, loaded with pictures, videos and listing of breeders. There are also a ton of articles on obedience training, housebreaking etc. If you are considering a Shiba Inu, then bookmark that page.
